121 Hoddle Street

Where builders and architects meet, building and architecture are always in conversation. 121 Hoddle St is the commercial headquarters for McCorkell Brown Group (McCorkell Constructions). Its utilitarian structure references the modular shed, yet it’s functionally tailored to the organisation’s needs over three levels. With the rough physicality of bricks and mortar, its industrial aesthetic projects a confident corporate identity and reflects the history and character of the Richmond locale. But there’s more than enough smart design to impress the clients and keep staff happy — while subtly evoking the refinement of a parent company whose broad interests encompass high-end hospitality and a boutique distillery. A 36kW roof solar array supplies all electricity. Operable external louvres to the west façade allow for views to the city while providing appropriate shade throughout the day. Openable windows and ceiling fans further exemplify forward-thinking passive design principles in a commercial office space setting.
