North West House

A bend in the road on a leafy street, close to parks and ovals. The location of this rundown 1930s bungalow was almost perfect, but one feature had always discouraged potential buyers: a stormwater drain ran diagonally beneath the backyard. But our clients could see the opportunity.  Their subterranean problem drove our design solution that now defines the family home: the reorientation of the rear extension from west to northwest. The new facade provides both protection from the summer sun and privacy from neighbours — while the Accoya timber creates a sheer screen for the shadowplay cast by local trees.
