Valley of the Sun is a prefabricated and repeatable greenhouse solar structure, designed and conceived for A New Normal — a project led by Finding Infinity that was awarded 2021 Melbourne Design Week Award. A New Normal challenges Melbourne to become an entirely self-sufficient city by the year 2040. To support this ambitious goal, Valley of the Sun points the way to a future Latrobe Valley in which a 21st century economy is underpinned by solar agriculture — the mixed use of agricultural land for both food and energy production (through solar PV). To showcase the potential of this transition to a more sustainable economy, the pop-up greenhouse and restaurant invites people to walk the property and enjoy a meal featuring food grown right there amidst the solar panels. It’s an immersive, delicious, pop-up experience of our energy future. And it’s 100% powered by the giant yellow nuclear reactor in the sky.
